"Top 5 Ways to Give Back When You are Broke or Unemployed!"
4. Build Homes/Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity- This organization has been around a really long time and they do a lot of good for communities all over the nation. You can learn more about them at http://www.habitat.org/.
3. Work at the local Food Bank- This is a great one if you are down on your luck or unemployed because you can help out and get a free meal at the same time! There are always events planned in numerous cities. Find a local Food Bank by searching the web or going to http://feedingamerica.org/foodbank
2. Offer to Mow Lawns- Most people own a lawn mower and will provide you gas if you offer to mow their lawn for free. There are plenty of people that just don't have the time. Who knows, if you do a good job you might get offered a paid position.
1. Volunteer at your local Nursing Home- There are a lot of older people that don't have a relative near them to visit. They really appreciate someone to talk to, play a board game with, or just sit and watch their favorite TV show with. The little things in life can make a big difference sometime.
*My Favorite One:
-Be an Assistant Coach for Little League- This can be really fun! I helped the Owner of JR Roofing coach the Cleghorn, IA team for a few weeks and the kids really look up to you. The best part is they are just starting out so you don't really have to be good to show off. Throw some pop flies or soft pitches so they can work on their catching and batting. This is one of my favorite ways to give back so far.
There are all kinds of ways to give time and a helping hand. Use this guide to get you started and get creative. The world needs more random acts of kindness to brighten up our moods a little! Let us know what your favorite thing to do to strengthen your community is!
